Explorer’s Point

Explorer’s Point Park is located on the north side of the Mattawa River where the Mattawa River meets the Ottawa River.

Explorer’s Point is now the home of the beautiful red pine log building which is the Mattawa Museum. The site also includes a hand carved pine statue of one of Canada’s folk heroes, Joe Mufferaw. The park offers picnic areas in a beautiful setting with incredible views.

Explorer’s Point was once the original site of the Hudson’s Bay Company in Mattawa which included seven (7) buildings.

The anchor was found in the Ottawa River and was believed to have been off one of the tugboats that moved the log booms down river. Photo by Tracy Hall @2019.
